Ergonomics-Led Development of Infant Weaning Tableware

The company undertook an R&D project to develop infant feeding products specifically engineered to support early motor skill development. Existing products primarily adapted adult tableware designs or focused on aesthetic differentiation, offering limited functional consideration for wrist control, coordination development or sensory engagement.

The technological uncertainties centred on whether product geometries could be developed that would consistently assist children in gathering and lifting food from varying positions, while simultaneously maintaining manufacturability and compliance with child safety standards. Further uncertainty existed in configuring a flexible, food-safe material capable of supporting more complex structural forms without collapsing or becoming excessively rigid.
