Reusable software framework for real-time signal-processing 

A deep tech company sought to develop a reusable software framework for real-time signal-processing applications, designed for deployment across multiple contexts. The framework needed to operate within strict timing constraints while exploiting concurrent processing capabilities. At project start, the team faced unresolved uncertainty around how scheduling, resource contention, data flow, and coordination between concurrent execution units would interact under sustained real-time load. This system-level uncertainty, arising from complex interactions rather than any single component, was resolved through iterative technical design, prototyping, and stress testing.

Computational architecture-specific acceleration

The same company designed optimised computational routines to exploit architecture-specific acceleration on a resource-constrained embedded platform. The goal was to increase compute efficiency for edge machine learning workloads by enhancing the software toolchain and improving concurrent processing. Engineers undertook low-level optimisations through iterative profiling, benchmarking, and redesign, exploring workload partitioning approaches and refining data movement between processing stages to reduce bottlenecks. This resulted in composable, reusable software building blocks for constructing efficient real-time processing pipelines.
