Who was the client?
Power Different is a UK-based commercial solar energy company specialising in the design and installation of photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage systems for businesses. The company works across rooftop and ground-mounted solar projects, as well as integrated battery solutions.Its team of qualified renewable energy engineers manages projects from initial feasibility and system design through to installation and ongoing maintenance. By providing structured, end-to-end support, Power Different helps organisations improve energy efficiency and transition towards more sustainable, lower-carbon operations.
What challenges did our client face?
Like many companies, they initially focused on the essentials such as year-end filings and compliance but required a firmer grasp on their finances. This infrastructure was holding them back. There was no structured management reporting in place, a lack of consistent KPIs, and no clear visibility over performance. As the business grew, complexity increased, but the reporting systems didn’t evolve with it. A scalable infrastructure was needed.
What was the result?
Working with Wilby Jones has provided Power Different with direction and a clear understanding of their numbers, and validation of their financial planning. From the outset, we positioned the relationship as equivalent to having a full-time FD and, in their view, that promise has been fulfilled. Initially, Power Different lacked this level of support but now they have the tools and insight they need to achieve their growth potential.Running financial simulations has been particularly useful for them. Using scenario based accounting to analyse fleet costs has been hugely helpful to assess whether leasing company fleet vehicles might be a better approach than asset finance, improving their long term forecasting.
This forward-looking insight allows Power Different’s leadership team to dedicate their time and energy to strategic business objectives with confidence. They no longer have to react to day-to-day pressures and instead can make informed, proactive decisions to reach the next phase of growth.
